no fast food
i'll admit it. i like fast food. it's quick, easy, good, and cheap. i know, i know...it's horrible for you and processed and gross and all the other stuff healthy people say is bad for you about it. but I'll say it...i like it...mcdonald's, taco bell, wendy's, ....and of course...chickfila. i like it.
best fries - burger king
best burger - wendy's
best chicken nuggets - chickfila ...though there is something great and classic about mcdonald's mcnuggets.
however...as the wedding day draws closer and closer josh and I are both faced with the fact that we could stand to loose a few pounds. My roommate is getting married a month before me. "Scait" as I refer to them (scott and caitlin) decided to not eat fast food until the wedding. THE SHAME! I thought to myself...but then, we decided if they can do it...we can do it...and for a month longer. So since the first of the year we've said no to fast food.
so the challenge is on. no fast food...except for valentine's day. we'll go to chickfila on valentine's day. it's josh's favorite...like FAVORITE place ever. AND sonic for some vday dessert because THEY HAVE THIS!!!
anyone else up for the challenge?!

who wants to lick?!
one of my biggest DIY projects for the wedding has been the invitations.
a. I love paper
b. I have a slight addiction to all things stationery
c. I have control issues and want it to be done just the way I see it in my head
d. I actually think it's kind of fun
I was excited to use one of my most favorite places for inspiration and paper products, Paper Source, for part of the invitations. The week of Christmas I received a box...
that had these in it...
I'm weird. but I love my envelopes. I also love Josh...he helped me assemble 100 invitations last week!!!

a year ago today
A year ago today, Josh had a stroke.
CRAZY.
it was an odd feeling standing there helpless as he slowly lost the use of his legs...then arms...then he couldn't talk, or focus his eyes. i knew it was serious but there was nothing i could do to stop it or help him. it was an odd feeling knowing that my mom and could not get him to the car ourselves to take him to the hospital so we had to call 911. it was an odd feeling sitting there waiting for the ambulance. i would tell him everything would be ok and he couldn't respond. he would try and talk and nothing would come out. i remember seeing the frustration and worry in his eyes as we waiting.
i don't know if any of you have ever ridden in an ambulance. i always thought that meant you ride in the back with the person that is hurt. that wasn't the case for me. i road up front in the passenger seat, in the bouncy seat constantly turning back to look through the window and look at josh. i wanted him to know i was there, he didn't.
we got the hospital and though josh was able to talk again, he still had trouble forming sentences and remembering information. it was up to me to provide his date of birth, address, full name, etc. Apparently the only thing he was able to tell the EMT in the ambulance was that he was going to marry me. We'd been dating 5 months at this point. That's not very long for most standards. Though I knew a lot earlier than I ever admitted that I would marry this man, it was on this day, in the emergency room, praying that he would be ok that I knew I'd be with him forever.
After his family came and tests were run, finally...about 4 hours after the episode he was back to normal and could have conversation with full sentences and remember facts. They never found an exact cause but all his tests came back normal. hopefully it was a freak moment and he won't have one ever again!
here's to another year stroke free!

where i've been
hello blog readers, friends, and family! sorry for the break in blogs. I had the past two weeks off of work, so I tried to use as much of that time to be productive and get wedding stuff done. and I think I've done a lot...
I got to pick up my wedding dress!
meet with the caterer!
ordered the dance floor!
assembled the first few invitations!
josh and I also took down Christmas and cleaned out the last few closets so there is some space for my stuff! Now that Christmas is down, we have room to put up some fun presents we got this year. Like these "D"s from anthro!

100,000 miles and 100 days
100,000 Miles
Previously to owning my current Jeep Liberty, my cars were nothing special. At 16 I had a 1988 Tercel...yeah, that's a Toyota (100 points if you name that movie). I had it for about a year and got in a wreck while skipping school...yet never got in trouble for that, score! I drove around with a dented in door for 2 more years. Then it died.
My next car was a Ford Contour. About a year after I had that one the window stopped rolling down. Awesome. At least I stopped going through drive-thrus as much! On the way to work one day it died. So I started driving my mom's Ford Taurus. I drove it for 2 weeks and it then it died. Awesome.
By this point I was out of college and had my first real job and was at good place financially to buy a car. My parents had a Jeep that I LOVED! so I figured that was a good place to start. I ended up with a black 2005 Jeep Liberty. She's been great! I've only gotten one new battery and had some break work done. That's it. Come January I will have had her for 6 years and just yesterday she hit 100,000 MILES!!! wow. It's like my baby is all grown up.
Over the past 6 years and 100,000 miles I've driven her all over and with help of so many friends had too many wonderful road trip memories to count! here's to 100,000 more...I hope!
100 Days
We are 100 days away from the wedding as of TODAY! WOAH! Freak out time! So much to do, so little time. Do we have any money left for this? What about the flowers? How do I get all the lights i want? Is everyone going to fit? What kind of cake should I get? What's our first dance song? Are we going to change clothes before we leave? What car are we going to leave in? What scripture means the most to me? Are people going to come? How should I wear my hair? Should I get my teeth whitened?
These are just a sampling of the questions that are constantly running through my head. calm.the.heck.down.emily.
that's what I need to be telling myself.
I've said from the beginning that once Christmas gets here it's "GO TIME." Well...look what happens next week. Christmas. dang. alright folks, buckle up. We've got lots of crafts, cutting, gluing, making, planning, and hopefully a dress fitting in the next month to get ready for!!!
March 26, 2011 HERE.WE.COME.
ps. if you know the answers to any of the aboved questions feel free to answer them for me!

sweet silver cups..and pups
I rented a lens this past weekend to take Cody's 2 year old pictures (coming soon). the day I got the lens I also got the cutest little mint julep cups I've ever seen. I've never had a mint julep...I don't really know what it is...something about drinking it at horse races...but I however, will not be using them for horse race punch but instead for a certain big event in March!!! seriously...they are so cute!

less than 5 months
I'm pretty sure I've been to the post office everyday for the past week. whew! hopefully next week I can show you what's kept me busy buying stamps and addressing envelopes instead of filling the internet with crafts and blogs. Sorry.
Yesterday marked the 5 month mark until the wedding. We're still moving along and crossing off things little by little on the 'ol checklist. (This past weekend my future father-in-law asked if I had methods of organizing stuff for the wedding. If only he knew. Apparently my OCD planning personality and control issues aren't as prevalent as I fear.) By checklist, I mean 1 of the 8 and I have at least 3 spreadsheets...there could be more. My notebook continues to grow. You would think it would get smaller the more decisions I make...alas, bigger.
Speaking of wedding...if you haven't seen any of our engagement pictures by the fabulous Mary Rosenbaum then I encourage to check out her blog or the slideshow. She did a great job!
In other news...I'm going to mention something I rarely talk about...weight loss. I never tried to lose weight. I've always been somewhat of a runner and it's seemed to keep me in a good place health-wise. Until now. For the first time I'm trying to get serious about eating healthy and shaping up...and it is not fun. I'm not going to lie. I don't recommend it. BUT if you need to get healthy OR if you met this boy who has made you the happiest you've ever been and in the meantime you've put on a few pounds and have a wedding coming up...then it's a reasonable goal to have. So...I got a food buddy and we hold each other accountable to what we eat. We are using http://www.loseit.com/ and it's been pretty helpful. We'll see how this goes...
I promise to be back tomorrow with much more exciting things!

wedding weekend
On Saturday...this super cute couple got married!!!!
I've known Jamie for a super long time! and was more than excited for her and tony to get married. They asked me to help organize some stuff for the wedding day. It was an honor to help make this day special for the two of them! (and any time I get to hang out with her family is a great day for me...seriously...the.nicest.family. I feel like her cousins are my cousins!!) I was a bit pre-occupied to take as many pictures I would like (being all "backstage" was a great way to get me in gear for my wedding!), but here are few shots I got of the wedding party and the happy couple!
kids in weddings...always entertaining!
the bride and groom!
I loved her candelabras! So pretty!
Congrats Tony and Jamie! Loved being a part of your special day!

the game of LIFE
I've actually never played it. It always seemed boring to me. Ironic, eh? Well life is about to be nothing but boring for me. In the next 9 months the following will happen:
a friend will have a baby
a friend (and roommate) will get married
I will get married
another friend will have a baby
a friend will move away
and another friend will have a baby
needless to say there will be plenty of shower pictures, baby pictures, wedding updates, and more than likely a few emotional blog posts about friendship and change and LIFE! It's a good thing I love roller coasters and celebrating all the fun things in life with my friends!
so strap in...because you're coming with me!

6 month check list
alright folks...we are right at 6 months from the wedding today. It seems kind of far away, but when I look at my planner I have no doubt it will go by quickly. I feel pretty good about where we are in the whole planning process. A lot of big picture stuff is done and just waiting to tackle some details.
Here are some things I've been able to cross off my list:
Venue. - ceremony and reception - check.
Band. check. This gang is fantastic! I've been to 3 weddings they have done and several times I heard them play in park. super excited!
Dress. check.
Bridesmaid dresses. check. I think :)
groomsmen attire. check.
caterer. check.
invitation design. check.
honeymoon.check.
centerpieces. check.
and last...but certianly, by all means, not least. the photographer. check! Mary and Adam are good friends of mine and I'm so very blessed she was available and willing to shoot our wedding.

one year ago today...
One year ago today I met these boys...
and my life was forever changed.
It was my mom's birthday and I was at the mall with her. Lele was at a goodbye party for Ben and Erin. She'd briefly mentioned meeting a guy to me earlier that week but that Friday night I got a text saying I should come to the party because I needed to really meet him. Instead, I hung out at the mall with my parents...because I'm cool...and a good daughter.
In my mind I thought it would be another "oh you should meet my friend" that never really happens. But it got scheduled to happen. WHAT?! How did that happen. I was really being set up? with a guy?! No. YES!
It was Caitlin's birthday now. We had a fun party. Somehow this set up became the topic of group conversation. Before I knew it my friends were planning our wedding...to a guy I had never even met! silly. (and people wonder why girls always get their hopes up and jump ahead in relationships!) I tried to blow it off. It wouldn't work out. We'd have dinner, I'd think he was nice. End of Story. WRONG! The beginning of the story...actually.
We met for dinner with Lele and Eric. It was going well until he suggested going to Bobbie's Dairy Dip for dessert. Then I just kind of knew. I have a STRONG love for the dairy dip. That summer I'm pretty sure I went at least once a week. I knew it had potential from that point on. I've talked to Josh everyday since that first meeting...and looks like I'll be talking to him everyday for the rest of my life! I'm so excited to marry him!
sometimes these dating anniversaries seem silly to me...especially when you are months away from from a wedding ...none the less. Today, I've been dating Josh for a year. and it's been absolutely wonderful.

Themes That Didn't Make the Cut - Part 2
It's pretty much a given that I love me a good "Theme Party." I've had 27 years of birthday parties (coming up on 28) and I've yet to repeat a theme. I fully support costume parties and LOVE celebrating holidays. When it comes to my wedding...what theme will I choose? I've come up with a few ideas. These are the ones that didn't make the cut.
My first theme marked off the list was the March Madness idea. March also holds the Irish holiday of St. Patrick's Day. Here's the deal...I've got Irish in me (hello? red hair, green eyes, fair skin...duh.) but I'm not sure a full out Irish wedding celebrating St. Patrick is for me. Though I must admit I look pretty darn good in green.
Here's what it would look like if we went the Irish route:
all in all I would prefer a St. Patrick's Day wedding to a March Madness wedding...but we are about a week late on the calendar. So...St. Patty's Theme did NOT make the cut. However, green will be a color...just not this prevalent.
stay tuned...more to come. feel free to make suggestions as well!

flowers
Flowers are things I wish I knew more about. I would LOVE to take an official flower arrangement class one day. I mean...I can put them in a vase and I think it's pretty but I would love to know more.
Naturally, when it comes to planning a wedding, now would be a good time to have that sort of information.
I have a few favorite flowers these days...luckily they are in season when I'm getting married!
If you are a flower person...or just want to give me more suggestions...I'd love all the help I can get on good spring wedding flowers. Any ideas blog readers?
